Detailed Itinerary with Destination History

Day 01: Delhi – Haridwar

Distance/Time: ~220 km / 6–7 hrs   |   Altitude: ~310 m

Pick-up from Delhi (airport / station / hotel / home; typically 8:00–11:00 AM). Scenic drive to Haridwar. Check-in on arrival. Evening visit to Mansa Devi Temple (by ropeway or steps, time permitting). Attend the soulful Ganga Aarti at Har-ki-Pauri.

Destination History — Haridwar

Haridwar, literally the “Gateway to the Gods,” is among the Sapta Puri—seven holiest cities of Hindu tradition. Mythology says drops of Amrit from the cosmic churning fell here, sanctifying the ghats. For centuries, pilgrims have gathered at Har-ki-Pauri to offer prayers on the banks of the Ganga, creating a vibrant yet reverent spiritual atmosphere.

  • Footwear isn’t allowed on ghats or temple premises—carry a small bag for shoes.

Day 02: Haridwar – Barkot

Distance/Time: 210 km / 7–8 hrs

Drive from Haridwar via the beautiful hill station of Mussoorie, visiting Mussoorie Lake and Kempty Falls on the way. Check into your hotel at Barkot and relax.

Destination History

  • Haridwar is one of the seven holiest cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism, known as the gateway to the Gods. According to legend, drops of Amrit (elixir) from the Samudra Manthan fell here.
  • Mussoorie, founded in the 19th century by the British, became a popular hill retreat for officers of the Raj.
  • Barkot is a serene Himalayan town along the Yamuna River, serving as the base for the sacred Yamunotri trek. Historically, it was a resting stop for sages and traders traveling through the Garhwal region.

Day 03: Barkot – Yamunotri – Barkot

Distance: 36 km drive + 6 km trek (each side)

Early morning drive to Jankichatti/Phoolchatti and start your trek to Yamunotri Temple. After a holy dip in Tapt Kund and darshan of Goddess Yamuna, return to Barkot.

Destination History

  • Yamunotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Yamuna, was built by Maharani Gularia of Jaipur in the 19th century. It marks the source of the Yamuna River.
  • Mythology believes that bathing in Yamuna’s waters frees devotees from the fear of untimely death.

Day 04: Barkot – Uttarkashi

Distance/Time: 100 km / 4 hrs

After breakfast, drive to Uttarkashi, visiting Shiv Gufa on the way. On arrival, visit the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and check in at your hotel.

  • Uttarkashi, meaning “Kashi of the North,” is a sacred town on the banks of the Bhagirathi River, known for its ashrams and Shiva temples.
  • The Kashi Vishwanath Temple here mirrors the famous temple in Varanasi, linking both cities as divine seats of Lord Shiva.

Day 05: Uttarkashi – Gangotri – Uttarkashi

Distance/Time: 100 km / 3–4 hrs (each side)

After breakfast, drive through the scenic Harsil Valley to Gangotri. Take a holy dip in the Bhagirathi River, offer prayers at Gangotri Temple, and return to Uttarkashi.

Destination History

  • Gangotri marks the origin of the River Ganga. Legend says King Bhagirath’s penance brought Goddess Ganga down from heaven.
  • The Gangotri Temple was built in the early 18th century by Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa.
  • Harsil Valley gained importance as a spiritual retreat and trade post on the ancient Tibet route.

Day 06: Uttarkashi – Guptkashi

Distance/Time: 220 km / 8–9 hrs

Drive to Guptkashi, following the scenic Mandakini River. Visit the Ardh Narishwar Temple, symbolizing the unity of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati.

Destination History

  • Guptkashi, meaning “Hidden Kashi,” is linked to the Pandavas’ search for Lord Shiva after the Mahabharata war.
  • During winters, idols from Kedarnath are brought here when snowfall blocks higher Himalayan routes.

Day 07: Guptkashi – Kedarnath

Trek: 18 km from Gaurikund

Early morning proceed to Sonprayag and Gaurikund. Begin your trek to Kedarnath or take pony/doli (own cost). After darshan, stay near the temple.

Destination History

  • Kedarnath Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva, located at 3,583 meters near the Mandakini River.
  • According to legend, Lord Shiva appeared as a bull and disappeared into the earth, leaving his hump at Kedarnath.
  • The temple was revived by Adi Shankaracharya in the 8th century.

Day 08: Kedarnath – Guptkashi

Morning pooja at Kedarnath Temple followed by trek back to Gaurikund and drive to Guptkashi.

Weather Note: Kedarnath remains cool even in summer (8–20°C); winters experience heavy snowfall.

Day 09: Guptkashi – Joshimath

Distance/Time: 200 km / 9–10 hrs   |   Altitude: 3,133 m

Early morning departure towards Joshimath. En route, enjoy scenic views of the Chopta Valley, famous for alpine meadows and Himalayan landscapes. On arrival, check in and relax for acclimatization.

Day 10: Joshimath – Govindghat – Ghangaria

Drive: ~14 km   |   Trek: Govindghat to Ghangaria   |   Altitude: 3,049 m

After breakfast, drive to Govindghat, the base point for trekking to Ghangaria. Begin the trek to Ghangaria, a small Himalayan village serving as the base camp for the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib. On arrival, check in at the hotel. The rest of the day is free for rest and acclimatization.

About Ghangaria

Ghangaria is a seasonal settlement located at an altitude of 3,049 meters, situated at the confluence of the Bhyundar Ganga and Pushpawati Rivers. It is the last human habitation in the Bhyundar Valley and remains open from May to September due to heavy winter snowfall.

The village serves as the primary base for visiting the Valley of Flowers National Park (approx. 3 km) and Hemkund Sahib (approx. 6 km).

Day 11: Ghangaria – Valley of Flowers – Ghangaria

After breakfast, trek to the Valley of Flowers, a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its rich alpine flora, vibrant wildflowers, and breathtaking mountain scenery.

Spend time exploring the valley and enjoying its serene natural beauty before returning to Ghangaria by afternoon.

Day 12: Ghangaria – Govindghat – Badrinath

Trek: 14 km (downhill)   |   Drive: ~30 km   |   Altitude: 3,133 m

After breakfast, trek down from Ghangaria to Govindghat and continue by road to Badrinath. On arrival, check in at the hotel.

Pilgrims may take a holy bath at Tapt Kund before attending evening Aarti and darshan at Badrinath Temple. Later, visit Mana Village, Vyas Gufa, Mata Murti Temple, Charan Paduka, Bhim Pul, Vasundhara Waterfall, and the origin point of the Saraswati River.

About Badrinath

Badrinath is one of the Ancient Four Dhams of India, located between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges with the majestic Neelkanth Peak in the backdrop. The name “Badri Van” originates from the wild berries that once covered the region.

Day 13: Badrinath – Joshimath – Rudraprayag

Distance/Time: 160 km / 7 hrs

After breakfast, visit the Narsingh Temple in Joshimath, the winter seat of Lord Badrinath. Continue the journey to Rudraprayag, the sacred confluence of the Mandakini and Alaknanda Rivers.

Destination History

  • Joshimath was founded by Adi Shankaracharya and is one of the four cardinal maths of Hinduism. During winter, the idol of Lord Badrinath is worshipped here.
  • Rudraprayag is named after Lord Rudra (Shiva) and is one of the Panch Prayags, the five sacred river confluences of Uttarakhand.

Day 14: Rudraprayag – Rishikesh – Haridwar / Dehradun

Distance/Time: 165 km / 5–6 hrs

After breakfast, drive to Rishikesh. Visit Laxman Jhula, Ram Jhula, and local temples. Later, proceed to Haridwar or Dehradun Airport as per your departure plan.

Destination History

  • Rishikesh, meaning “Lord of the Senses,” is believed to be the place where Lord Vishnu appeared to sage Raibhya.
  • Known as the Yoga Capital of the World, Rishikesh is home to ancient ashrams and the iconic Ganga Aarti at Triveni Ghat.

Day 15: Rishikesh – Delhi / Delhi Airport

Distance/Time: ~245 km / 6–7 hrs

After breakfast at the hotel, drive back to Delhi. Drop-off at the airport, railway station, hotel, or home as per your departure schedule.
