Who is Lord Kedarnath?

Lord Kedarnath is one of the most revered forms of Lord Shiva, worshipped at the holy Kedarnath Temple in Uttarakhand. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas and a key part of the Chota Char Dham and Panch Kedar pilgrimage circuits. Kedarnath symbolizes divine protection, strength, and liberation.

1. Appearance of the Jyotirlinga

Shiva manifested at Kedarnath as a triangular-shaped lingam, representing his divine mountain form.

2. Pandavas and Shiva

After the Kurukshetra war, the Pandavas sought Shiva’s forgiveness. Shiva, disguised as a bull, dived into the ground at Kedarnath. His hump appeared here, forming the Kedarnath Jyotirlinga. Other body parts appeared at the other Panch Kedar temples.

3. Adi Shankaracharya

Adi Shankaracharya re-established the Kedarnath temple and attained samadhi behind it, enhancing its spiritual significance.
